It's quite a frightening thought that almost a whole year has gone by since I first started this Blog - where has that year gone?
As we approach the run up to Christmas, many people are probably anticipating having friends and relatives to visit or stay over and some may well be thinking "The house is in a mess! What will they think?" etc. At Christmas, with more people in the house and new possessions to accommodate, our houses often seem more untidy and much fuller than usual anyway. My advice is to concentrate on trying to make your main rooms look comfortable and inviting. I am not usually an advocate of just hiding things away rather than sorting them and getting rid of the clutter but at times like this, when there is so much preparation, this is probably the best way to tackle the problem. Unless you can enlist a lot of help from the family, this is not the best time to get the kids to sort out their rooms or clear the loft etc. but if the main areas which will be on display are welcoming and tidy, then you can resolve to tackle other more time consuming tasks in the new year.

Organize that wardrobe!
Did you know that most of us only wear 20% of our clothes for 80% of the time?
Obviously we need different types of clothes for different occasions and activities but are you hoarding clothes that you haven’t worn for years “just in case you might need them”? Well the chances are that you won’t!
A good rule of thumb is if you haven't worn something for a year then you never will wear it again and so it's just taking up space in your wardrobe. None of us have such vast amounts of space that we can afford to keep unnecessary items.
Sometimes we buy things (usually on impulse!) and then never wear them but just feel too guilty about wasting the money to actually get rid of them - yes, we've all done it! Everytime you see this item you feel a new pang of guilt so ... get rid of it once and for all!
Are you keeping clothes which are too small for when you go on that diet and can fit into them again? Well throw them out – they are only being a depressing reminder and besides, if you do lose weight then you deserve to treat yourself with some new clothes!
Remember that you don't have to literally throw unwanted clothes away; there are a number of options and all are environmentally friendly as they involve re-cycling. You can either donate them to a charity shop, sell them on Ebay, organise a sale amongst your friends and donate the proceeds to your favourite charity or get together with a few like minded friends of a similar size and have a clothes swop where you just exchange unwanted clothes with each other -all of these are much more fun than constantly being reminded of your mistakes every time you open your wardrobe!

Six questions to ask yourself about your home
From time to time, it's a useful exercise to try to see your home from a visitor's point of view as we tend to just get used to clutter, poor decoration or badly arranged furniture etc. By asking these six questions, you will start to see your home more objectively and be well on the way to achieving the sort of home you really deserve.
So, here are my questions:-
So, here are my questions:-
- Do I like going through my front door?
- Does my home look welcoming? (Would I want to visit it?)
- What would this room look like to a stranger?
- Do I like going into my bedroom?
- If I was a visitor, would I enjoy a meal cooked in my kitchen?
- Is my bathroom clean and fresh and the sort of place to linger in?
If the answer to any of these questions is "no" then it's time to do something about it! YOU deserve the best environment you can provide!

Five questions to ask yourself before you buy something new!
Here are my five questions to ask yourself before you buy something new. If you ask yourself these quick questions then hopefully you will avoid adding useless clutter to your house and save yourself some money!
- Do I really need this?
- Have I already got one (or two or three!)
- Is it useful or ornamental?
- If I came back next week, would I still want it?
- Could I use the money more wisely?
I'm not suggesting that you never buy things on impulse again but as many of our impulse buys end up never being used/worn it might be a good idea to at least try to limit them.
